Before You Start

Before you hand documentation work to an AI agent, make sure you have the following.

  • An AI tool that supports MCP — such as Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT (Codex), or Microsoft Copilot.
  • The REST API & MCP add-on enabled on your portal. The Authoring MCP Server is part of this add-on. If your portal doesn't have it yet, see the REST API & MCP add-on on the pricing page.
  • A dedicated ClickHelp account for the agent. Create a separate Contributor account for the agent to use with the desired permissions. This keeps AI-made changes easy to track and lets you control exactly what the agent can read or edit.
An agent acts with the exact permissions of the account it signs in with. Using a dedicated account with scoped permissions means the agent can only touch what you allow it to.
