Before you hand documentation work to an AI agent, make sure you have the following.
- An AI tool that supports MCP — such as Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT (Codex), or Microsoft Copilot.
- The REST API & MCP add-on enabled on your portal. The Authoring MCP Server is part of this add-on. If your portal doesn't have it yet, see the REST API & MCP add-on on the pricing page.
- A dedicated ClickHelp account for the agent. Create a separate Contributor account for the agent to use with the desired permissions. This keeps AI-made changes easy to track and lets you control exactly what the agent can read or edit.
| An agent acts with the exact permissions of the account it signs in with. Using a dedicated account with scoped permissions means the agent can only touch what you allow it to. |
