Because Google has deprecated its translator widget, ClickHelp is following suit. The widget remains available in your portal for now, but it is no longer maintained by Google, and ClickHelp no longer provides technical support for it.
Instead of relying on a deprecated tool, we recommend exploring our built-in features to provide a more reliable and modern multilingual experience for your readers. Depending on whether your users need a quick answer or access to fully localized documentation, ClickHelp offers several tailored solutions.
- Choosing Your Approach
- Answering Questions in the Reader's Language
- Publishing Fully Translated Documentation
- Automating translation with machine translation
- Giving Each Language Its Own Site
- Can I Keep Using the Google Translate Widget?
Choosing Your Approach
Review the table below to find the approach that best fits your readers' needs.
| Your goal | Recommended approach |
| Help readers get answers in their own language, without maintaining translations of your documentation | AnswerGenius |
| Let readers browse and read your entire documentation in their language | Translation Ecosystem |
| Automate the creation of the localized documentation |
Translation Ecosystem + Machine Translation |
| Give each language its own domain, branding, and Home page | Translation Ecosystem + Multi-site setup |
| Keep the current reader experience for now | Continue using the deprecated widget as-is |
The recommended ClickHelp alternatives do not reproduce the old widget exactly. While the widget machine-translates the current page on the fly, our native features provide a higher-quality experience, giving readers either an instant, AI-generated answer in their language, or fully controlled, localized content.
Answering Questions in the Reader's Language
AnswerGenius is an AI assistant that answers reader questions based on your documentation and provides links to the source topics. Readers can ask questions in their preferred language and receive answers in that same language — regardless of the language your documentation is originally written in.
This is the fastest and easiest option to adopt: you translate nothing and maintain nothing. Readers get a direct answer to their question instead of a roughly translated page, which covers the vast majority of cases where they would have used the widget.
| AnswerGenius is available with the AI Suite add-on and consumes CAPs. Learn more: ClickHelp AI Suite. |

Publishing Fully Translated Documentation
If your readers need to browse and read your complete documentation in their native language, we recommend translating it using the Translation Ecosystem. You can translate content in the built-in Translation Editor or by exporting and importing XLIFF files. Translators work from the Translator Workspace. Beyond topic content, you can also localize the Home page, Reader Interface, index keywords, variables and email notifications.
| Translation Ecosystem is a paid add-on available for all pricing plans. |
Automating translation with machine translation
You do not have to translate everything manually. ClickHelp can machine-translate your content using DeepL, Google Cloud Translation, or Microsoft Translator. Once generated, your team can review and refine the results in the Translation Editor.
See Machine Translation and Translate Content Automatically with Machine Translation.
Giving Each Language Its Own Site
If different languages require separate branding — such as their own domain, logo, Home page, and reader menu — you can combine the Translation Ecosystem with a multi-site setup. This allows you to run several sites from a single portal, assigning each language's publications to its respective site. AnswerGenius and portal search can also be scoped to the current site, ensuring readers stay fully immersed in their preferred language.
See Multi-site Setup, Create Several Sites with Different Content, and AnswerGenius Configuration in Multi-site Setup.
Can I Keep Using the Google Translate Widget?
The widget remains available, and you can keep it enabled. However, please note that starting September 2026, the widget is provided strictly as-is. ClickHelp will no longer investigate, fix, or customize its behavior. This includes the language list, appearance, size, positioning, or general availability.
Two things are unaffected by this change. Machine Translation features that use Google Cloud Translation continue to work as before. Browser-based page translation, such as Chrome's built-in translation, is managed by the reader's browser and is outside ClickHelp's control. Readers will retain this option regardless of whether the ClickHelp widget is enabled.
